This is a mural representing Bobby Sands, an Irish national hero who died after undertaking a hunger strike (together with other IRA members held prisoners, whose names appear on the side) to protest against the condition they were suffering in the British prisons.
The pub has been the stage of a bomb attack by the UVF (Ulster Volunteers) in 1994 during an IRA meeting and lead to the death of the bouncer (Martin Doherty, who was shot) who heroically managed to close the pub's door so that the bomb, although partially exploding, didn't cause any other victims.
As of 2005, this pub was to be taken down to build an appartment block. It was/is located 300 mt. from Pearse Station going towards Ringsend on the right hand side of the road. The Widow Scallans
